2024 Travel Trends: A new Kayak report projects that domestic U.S. airfare will drop 16% in 2024, while certain international destinations such as Abu Dhabi (-32%), Belo Horizante, Brazil (-27%), and Mendoza, Argentina (-20%) will see big flight price decreases as well.
Airbnb Price Predictions: Analytics company AirDNA estimates that the average nightly rate for U.S. Airbnbs will increase by a relatively small 2.1% in 2024
The world’s cheapest cities for short-term travel
According to Nomad List, 84% of digital nomads stay in a country for less than 90 days at a time. For most travelers, this means staying in expensive short-term housing provided by Airbnb and similar platforms.
Exclusive research from Nomad Deals shows which major cities are the most affordable for short-term stays going into 2024. Expense figures include day-to-day living, plus the average daily cost of an Airbnb rental in the city.

Cordoba, Argentina tops the 2024 Nomad Deals ranking of the world’s most affordable short-term cities. Argentina’s economic woes made the country one of the best digital nomad deals in 2024. In Cordoba — the country’s second-largest city with 1.6 milllion inhabitants — the average Airbnb costs $44 per night (before monthly discounts). Meanwhile, the average monthly cost of living comes in at an astonishingly cheap $480.
With three of the top 20 spots, Colombia stands out for its bargain Airbnbs and low daily cost of living. However, surging tourism and higher prices have pushed popular nomad hotspots Cartagena and Medellin down to #72 and #49 on the list, respectively.
In Europe, up-and-coming nomad destination Skopje, North Macedonia maintains its position as the cheapest European capital. With the average monthly Airbnb stay at $745 and living expenses of $599, the city is at least $100 less expensive than its nearest rivals.
When you think about cheap Asian countries, Thailand is probably top of mind. But it’s actually Phnom Penh, Cambodia that leads the pack in East Asia, with a monthly cost of living amounting to $1,233. At $37 per night, the average Airbnb in the city is cheaper by far than any other major city.
Ranking methodology
Cost of living data and Airbnb prices come from Numbeo and AirDNA, respectively. For 30-day Airbnb stays, this ranking uses the average monthly discount of 46%. Expenses for one person and include the cost of food, transportation, entertainment, etc.
