October Flight Deals Report
Summer is almost over.
That sucks for almost everyone in the northern hemisphere, but it’s good news for travelers and digital nomads. Here are the overseas destinations where American travelers can find some of the best deals on flights for October (data courtesy of Skyscanner).
Overall, Cancun takes the number one spot. One-way direct flights can be found for under $100 in 12 U.S. cities. If we include flights under $250, that list expands to 22 cities. Rounding out the top four are Guadalajara, Puerto Rico, and Mexico City.
Czech Nomad Visa Drops
If you want to check off the Czech Republic from your bucket list, the country’s new nomad visa is your chance to stay for the long haul. Only catch is that they’re a little strict on the requirements (techies only).
degree in STEM or 3 years working in tech
earn at least $2,700/month
work as freelancer or foreign company with at least 50 employees
If you do meet those requirements, though, the visa only costs around $112 and is good for a year.
The Return of Cheap Flights
Travel website Hopper is out with some good news: flight prices are falling…and they’re projected to fall even more over the next six months.
Where Prices are Down (and Up)
In a recent blog post, Hopper’s chief economist Haley Berg outlines where flight prices from the U.S. are rising and falling.
USA: Domestically, the price of an average ticket is down 11% from last year, and is now 10% below pre-pandemic levels.
Mexico & Central America: Snowbirds can celebrate the fact that prices have dropped 6% from last year. Overall, flight prices are roughly flat from 2019.
South America: The best deals can be found way south of the border, where flight prices have collapsed 26% from last year and are 13% below pre-pandemic levels.
Europe: Flight prices across the pond are down 10% from last year. Still, Europe remains hot for American travelers, and prices are still 16% above 2019 levels.
Asia: The closure of Russian airspace resulted in skyrocketing flight prices which have only gotten worse. Prices are up 3% over 2022, and a staggering 111% since 2019.
