Mexico Now 15% Cheaper for Travelers

For digital nomads in Mexico, those cheap street tacos just got a little bit cheaper thanks to the strengthening U.S. dollar. Here’s a look at what’s going on south of the border.

Background

Just four months ago, the U.S. dollar threatened to break below 16 pesos, prompting a raft of social media videos from nomads complaining about rising living costs. But with the prospect of the Fed lowering interest rates later this year, the dollar recently surged above 20 pesos.

Currently, the exchange rate sits at 19 MXN to 1 USD, bringing us back to levels last seen in January 2023.

Summer Flights

Over 1.6 million U.S. citizens live in Mexico, making it the (likely) most popular destination for American nomads. In total, nearly 37 million American tourists visited their southern neighbor in 2023, smashing the prior year’s record of 33 million.

One big reason? Affordable, convenient flights from all of the nation’s busiest airports. Here’s our roundup of the best one-way, direct flights available from now until the end of the summer.
