End of the Argentina Travel Bargain?
Travelers face surging prices and a weakening exchange rate in this digital nomad hotspot
New Argentinian president Javier Milei isn’t yelling afuera! to digital nomads, but his reforms are having that effect.
Over the last few months, nomads in Buenos Aires have bemoaned rising prices. More below on what’s going on in this travel hotspot 👇

Argentina: End of the Best Nomad Deal?
In our October 2023 article “Why Nomads Are Eating $10 Steak in Argentina,” we discussed how Argentina’s currency crisis created one of the best travel deals for digital nomads. Today, that bargain appears kaput.
In a bid to end runaway inflation and revive the economy, Argentina’s new government enacted several shock therapy policies. In December, officials moved to collapse the dollar/peso exchange rate, virtually eliminating the blue dollar hack that we talked about last year. According to bluedollar.net, the gap between the black market rate and the official exchange rate has shrunk to just 19%, compared with nearly 100% in 2023.
At the same time, inflation has surged over 70% since December after the government removed subsidies on key commodities. On social media sites such as X (née Twitter), digital nomads now post more about prices doubling than ultra cheap barrio steaks.
Bottom line: While Argentina remains a relative bargain compared to much of the U.S. and Europe, it is no longer the breathtaking bargain that it was in 2023.
