I love the smell of savings in the morning…especially when it comes to flights.
2023 was expensive AF for travel, especially to Europe. But next year is looking better. Read on to learn the latest hacks for saving money on airfare.

Wanna Save Money? Surf the Low Seasons
This handy dandy chart from a new Kayak report shows the best times to travel in every region of the world.
Kayak calls these windows of opportunity “in-betweasons,” i.e. the periods before and/or after peak season. Otherwise known as “shoulder season,” this is where the weather remains nice, but crowds and accommodation/flight prices fall significantly. A few examples:
Europe flights cost 27% less during March/April and September/October ($747 vs. $1,027 during the peak)
Flights to South America’s northern half cost 19% less during January - April and September ($482 vs. $638). For the southern half of the continent, flights are 24% cheaper.
Caribbean flights cost 24% less ($465 vs $610).
Asia flights cost 12% less.
North America flights cost 14% less.
Africa flights cost 20-25% less
Is the Volaris Annual Pass Worth It?
Mexican budget airline Volaris just dropped its unlimited flights annual pass.
Here’s the deal: for $499.99 a year, you can hop on any Volaris flight and only pay taxes/fees.
The catch? You can only book domestic Mexican flights one day in advance, and international flights up to three days prior.
A Twitter thread from user @BowTiedPassport explains how in most cases, Vclub membership saves money — even if you book far in advance. For digital nomads based in Mexico or frequent travelers in Latam, the pass could theoretically pay for itself within 2-3 flights.
The End of Revenge Travel…and the Start of Europe Discounts
The era of “revenge travel” is done-zo.
According to a new article in The Wall Street Journal, flights prices to Europe are coming down in 2024 after everyone and their mother caught the travel bug in 2022 and 2023.
One example: one-way flight prices from my hometown of Boston to Dublin have crashed to a low of $432 for some days in June — a whopping $640 cheaper than average last year.
Meanwhile, you can snag a non-stop flight from New York to Paris for under $366 in May — 21% below the average of 2023.
Where Flight Prices Are Up
Airfares to nomad hotspots such as Barcelona, Athens, Lisbon, and Madrid are up over 20% on average in 2024.
When to Book
According to Hopper chief economist Hayley Berg, an incoming surge of airline capacity will likely ease flight prices within the next few months.
For spring trips, book in January.
For summer trips, book in March.
