Czech Republic Scraps Work Visa Rules

Good news for digital nomads in the Czech Republic: citizens from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, the UK, and the US could soon ditch the work permit paperwork.

A draft regulation by the Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs proposes exempting these countries from work permit requirements, starting this July.

Current Rules

The Czech Republic already has a program aimed at digital nomads, first introduced in 2023.

Technically, it's a long-term residence permit for citizens of the above countries, allowing freelance or remote work for up to a year. The Czech Republic seeks applicants with a monthly salary of at least 60,530 CZK (roughly $2,681 USD), as well as a STEM degree or three years of experience working in IT.

Last Minute Flight Deals: May 2024

As we move closer to the busy summer travel season (argh), nomads should expect a move up in airline prices. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t deals to be had.

Europe

In May, New York City leads the pack with six flights available for under $250. Meanwhile, cheap flights to Barcelona are back on menu from select cities.

Remember, it is often more cost-effective to snap up a cheap flight to a random city in Europe, and then take a local budget airline to your final destination.

Latin America

South of the border, Cancun and Puerto Rico consistently top the list of cheap flight destinations from the U.S. mainland (the list would have been too long if we included them). Leaving those hotspots aside, popular nomad destinations such as Mexico City, Bogota, Guadalajara, and Medellin are accessible for less than $100 from certain U.S. cities.

The beauty of the Latam deals is that you have a lot of flexibility on dates. In most cases, these prices are available for days throughout the month of April.

Asia

Although flight prices to Asia remain 44% above 2019 levels, some relative bargains can still be had. Cheap flights from the West coast are available to Japan, which remains a big travel bargain for digital nomads. Flights to Mumbai from New York and Los Angeles are also competitive in terms of price.
