9 Airbnbs in Medellin for Summer 2023

A Curated List Of Digital Nomad-Friendly Apartments in This Colombian Hotspot

Hola mis amigos!

This week we’re going to Medellin, Colombia. Sooner or later, just about every digital nomad will land in the City of Eternal Spring. Mild weather, notorious nightlife, relatively low cost of living, and pretty girls…what’s not to love? (well, I suppose the crime, but Medellin is not that dangerous.)

Another great benefit: it’s really easy to find a digital-nomad friendly Airbnb in the city. Many “hosts” are actually professional hospitality companies that design their apartments for remote workers. Here are some top apartments still available for long stays this summer (scroll to the end for the guidelines that I used to choose these listings.)

Neighborhood

The best areas to stay in Medellin are generally El Poblado and Laureles. Poblado is the more popular and touristy neighborhood, and it’s also where you will find a lot of nightlife, restaurants, and cafes. Laureles is probably better if you want a more "local” experience with fewer gringos.

9 Airbnbs to Check Out Now

Listings are displayed from least expensive to most expensive. Prices are for a month-long stay and include all Airbnb and cleaning fees.

  • Desk & chair

  • Balcony

  • Superhost

This apartment in Laureles is the least expensive nomad-friendly Airbnb that I’ve seen in a nice neighborhood. Although it’s a small studio, all of the essentials are there: big bed, desk and chair, and kitchen. The cooking area is tiny, but that might not matter if (like me) you never cook. The balcony and large windows let in plenty of light. Better book this one quickly — ‘cause hell, I might book it myself.

  • Desk & chair

  • Security

  • 30-night stay minimum.

El Poblado is expensive AF these days, and this apartment is one of the only listings under $1,000 that made this list. Although not shown in the pictures, the host confirmed that there is now a proper office chair for the desk. The kitchenette is small, but adequate for cooking basic meals. Reviewers noted that the building is close to the action area, yet quiet and secure. The host said in messages that one overnight guest is permitted with ID.

  • Desk & chair

  • Skyline view

  • Washer

Looking at this El Poblado property, I’m surprised it’s not priced 20-30% higher. Views like this usually don’t come so cheap. Although the apartment only has three (perfect) reviews, prior guests were all long-term. Here you are within walking distance of Zona Rosa and other amenities, but still in a quiet area. Only downside I can see is that the TV is somewhat weirdly positioned, and the office chair doesn’t have arms.

  • 2 desk & 2 chairs

  • Balcony

  • Superhost

  • Washer

With two office chairs and a wide desk area, this listing in Laureles would be perfect for a traveling couple (no rando overnight guests are allowed.) You also get a nice little balcony and bright natural light. One downside that many reviewers complained about is noise, which means that it’s probably really f*cking noisy. Bring your earplugs or white noise app.

  • Desk & chair

  • Balcony

  • Superhost

  • Washer

Kinda feels like you’re in the middle of the jungle with this loft, but you’re actually right in El Poblado. The near-perfect star rating is backed by 50 reviewers who praised the security, style, responsiveness of the host and walkability to Provenza. Only con I can see is the desk chair isn’t ergonomic. That would definitely cause some cause me some literal butthurt sitting all day, but maybe some travelers wouldn’t mind.

  • Desk & chair

  • Oven

  • Washer & dryer

  • Air conditioning

If you want an apartment with the same amenities that you have back home, then this unit is for you. This listing stands out for being one of the only units with both a washing machine and a dryer. It also boasts an oven in the kitchen, which is pretty rare for Airbnbs in Medellin. Another convenience is the bedroom A/C unit, which you almost never see here. You’re also a 5-minute walk from Provenza, but up on a hill away from the noise. Guests can sign in with security with proper ID.

  • Desk & chair

  • Rooftop pool

  • Washer & dryer

  • Dishwasher

Poblado might be the touristy area, but Las Palmas is where the actual wealthy people live. You aren’t really within walking distance of Zona Rosa, but when you’re rich AF, I suppose you don’t walk much (10 min Uber is like $2-3 USD.) . Amenities of this apartment include skyline views, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and a heated rooftop pool for building residents. One con is that the building doesn’t allow overnight guests…no riff raff here.

  • Desk & chair

  • Gym & pool

  • Washer

  • Skyline view

This studio near the top of the Blux Apartamentos building in Poblado boasts unbeatable views, with sliding glass windows that turn the living area into an observation deck. I’ve personally stayed in three different units in this building, and let me tell you right now — it’s dope. You’re just a 10-15 minute walk from Zona Rosa, and residents can access a pool and small gym. Security guards are chill and allow overnight guests with proper ID. Although this is one of the pricier rentals, many other less expensive Airbnbs are located in Blux. Only downside is the annoyingly noisy air vent in some of the upper-floor units.

Methodology

The Airbnbs on this list were chosen based on several factors. Only listings rated 4.8 or higher were considered. Although there are other decent neighborhoods in Medellin, this list only includes Airbnbs in or near the El Poblado and Laureles neighborhoods. Amenities important to digital nomads such as a proper workspace, kitchen, overnight guest policy, host communication, light/ambiance, and quietness were also weighed heavily.
