8 Airbnbs in Mexico City for Summer 2023

curated list of digital nomad-friendly apartments

Hola mis amigos!

The first ever issue of Nomad Deals takes us to Mexico City, a.k.a. CDMX, the Mexican capital that has become a trendy hotspot for digital nomads. Not difficult to see why: it’s the largest city in North America, a foodie mecca, and a major cultural center.

Here, we’ve rounded up a list of 8 digital nomad-friendly Airbnbs available for long stays this summer (scroll to the end for the guidelines that I used to choose these listings.)

Neighborhood

The Roma/La Condesa/Hipodromo area is the universal answer for where foreigners should stay in Mexico City. Although more expensive than other cities in Latam, this area is known for its safety and for having tons of bars, restaurants, and cafes.

8 Airbnbs to Check Out Now

Listings are displayed from least expensive to most expensive. Prices are for a month-long stay and include all Airbnb and cleaning fees (Mexico’s 16% rental tax is extra, however.)

Located nearby Roma Sur in the Piedad Narvarte neighborhood, this apartment is more of a budget option compared to others on our list. It isn’t the largest place, with a small stovetop/fridge and little natural light. The desk chair also lacks arms. However, reviewers praised the quietness of the unit. The host also indicated that overnight guests can sign in with building security.

This might not be fanciest unit on our list, but this apartment in Roma Norte contains the digital nomad essentials. There is a proper workspace, and guests praised the well-stocked kitchen, safety, and natural light. A rooftop terrace with a grill is also available for guests. The bed is only a double, which might make it a bit of a tight fit for two people.

One advantage of this property in Roma Norte is that it comes with three beds (one double bed and two twin beds), so this would be a good choice if you want multiple friends to stay over. There is also an alcove in the bedroom with a desk and office chair. Reviewers pointed out that the hot water runs out quickly (par for the course in Latam) but that the area is quiet. The host said in private messages that overnight guests would not be an issue.

  • Desk & chair

  • Washer

With only four prior reviews, this unit in Roma Sur is a relative newcomer to Airbnb. Still, a perfect score is a perfect score. There is a desk and an actual office chair, and the apartment appears to get plenty of natural light. Appliances include an oven in the kitchen (somewhat rare in Mexico) and a washing machine. The host indicated in messages that she would have no problem with overnight guests.

This condo in Roma Sur comes with Airbnb’s “Plus” badge, which means that the property has been vetted by Airbnb for amenities. The apartment features a balcony, and guests commented that it was less noisy than other places in CDMX. For remote workers, there is a desk and ergonomic office chair. One disgruntled reviewer recently complained about cleanliness, though 160 other guests wrote that they enjoyed the place.

  • Washer/dryer

This two-bedroom condo is located in the Roma neighborhood. Several guests praised the natural light, strong WiFi, security guards, and solid water pressure. The “dedicated workspace” is legit, with an actual office chair and large desk. The one downside (depending on your POV) is the guest policy. After messaging the host, it became clear that she wouldn’t be comfortable with random overnight guests or friends staying at the apartment.

  • Desk & 2 chairs

  • Washer/dryer

  • Balcony

Although this apartment in La Condesa falls on the pricey end of the spectrum, it features an expansive desk with two office chairs. That workspace, along with the large bed, could make this unit a good choice for couples. It’s also nicely decorated with an artsy vibe and comes with a balcony. One guest wrote about minor noise issues at night. Note that stays longer than two weeks require weekly cleaning for $22.50 per session.

  • 2 desks & 2 chairs

  • Washer

  • Balcony

  • Superhost

At $2,422 before taxes, this Roma condo is the most expensive on the list, but also probably the coolest. The double workspace and two bedroom/two bathroom setup is perfect for a couple, family, or friends traveling together. Many guests praised the modern, Bohemian-style decor, hot water, quietness, and natural light. When you have 100+ rave reviews, that’s probably a pretty safe bet.

Methodology

The Airbnbs on this list were chosen based on several factors. Only listings rated 4.8 or higher were considered. Although there are other decent neighborhoods in CDMX, this list only includes Airbnbs in or near the Roma, La Condesa, and Hipodromo neighborhoods. Amenities important to digital nomads such as a proper workspace, kitchen, guest policy, host communication, light/ambiance, and quietness were also weighed heavily.
