5 Airbnbs in Antigua, Guatemala for This Summer

A Curated List Of Digital Nomad-Friendly Apartments In This Emerging Hotspot

Hola mis amigos.

This week we’re going to Antigua, Guatemala. This small tourist town one hour outside Guatemala City is known for the stunning volcano views and Spanish Baroque architecture that have made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some have dubbed it an emerging hotspot for “influencer” types. Now that those bozos have already ruined Tulum, it might be worth looking into Antigua before it’s totally ruined

Neighborhood

Antigua is a relatively small city, and most of the restaurants and bars are concentrated downtown in the center. This area is known as one of the safest in Guatemala, and everything you need is easily walkable.

Previous guests gave it a perfect score…’nuff said. This apartment is simple, but it contains all the necessities and fast WiFi. People who do a lot of cooking might find the kitchen too small, and the desk doesn’t feature a proper office chair, but for <$1,000 you can’t complain. Some reviewers wrote about daytime road noise, so bring your earplugs and headphones.

This cute little guest house stands out for being one of the few places with an actual office chair. Enjoy a nice view of the private garden while your colleagues remain trapped in their dark tiny studio apartments. Prior guests noted the quietness, in contrast to other area apartments. Like the previous property, the kitchen is basic and lacks a microwave for reheating food.

Let’s call this one the Editor’s Pick, because this is where yours truly would stay. The wood furnishings give the apartment an antique feel, but there’s also a modern office chair for working. The kitchen area is also well-equipped and larger than other alternatives. A roof deck also offers building residents a postcard view of the volcano. Only downsides are lack of a washing machine and the rather small TV.

  • Patio

For those who like to cook, this rental boasts the best kitchen of all the Airbnbs on this list. An oven and plenty of counter space should come in handy for meal prep (if you don’t eat out every night like some of us…) The house also features a garage, patio space with a small grill. Only downsides are that the desk doesn’t come with an ergonomic office chair, and there is no washing machine.

A little weird that this studio has two double beds, but maybe someone will find that handy. Really, this unit comes across more as a hotel room (in fact, the hosts offer several similar listings.) There isn’t a full-size fridge or oven, but the kitchen is adequate enough. Still, 80 guests wrote stellar reviews, and the property is right in the center of the action downtown.

Methodology

The Airbnbs on this list were chosen based on several factors. Only listings rated 4.8 or higher within a 15-minute walk of downtown were considered. Amenities important to digital nomads such as a proper workspace, kitchen, overnight guest policy, host communication, light/ambiance, and quietness were also prioritized.
